| How do I map Sharepoint to a network drive? |
The following instructions show how to map a network drive to your Sharepoint 3.0 site. This will allow you to drag and drop files to and from your Sharepoint site.
- In Windows, select the Start menu and select My Computer.
- Click on Tools from the top menu bar. Select Map Network Drive.
- In the Folder type "http:\\sharepointdomain.com/<folder name>" (omit quotes) i.e. http:\\intranet.19marketplace.com/folder
- Click on "Connect using a different user name" link
- Enter your user name and password for SharePoint
- Select Finish.
- Enter login info and press OK
Please note that this must be done by a person that has SharePoint admin rights.
Several customers have problems with their SharePoint drives disconnecting. If you run into this problem, please try Network places instead and put a short cut on your desktop. To setup a network place, please follow the work around described in the link below:
If you are connecting using Explorer View you may be prompted for your username and password several times. If you click Cancel Web folders are displayed. This occurs because by default Windows Vista and Windows XP SP2 and above disables Basic Authentication in Webdav for security purposes.
Below is the support article from Microsoft that discusses this error and offers a workaround:
